Rafael is a founding partner at BFBM. His practice is strongly focused on the banking sector, in which he represents the major Brazilian players. His key clients are Banco Itaú Unibanco, Banco Bradesco, and Federação Brasileira de Bancos. His main areas of practice are Civil, Commercial, Consumer Law, and Constitutional Law, in which he works both as a consultant and conducting litigation. He acts on strategic, high-value litigation cases and in all courts across Brazil, especially the Superior Courts (STF and STJ).
He is the leader of our Banking and Consumer Law teams and has been working extensively in a wide range of matters within the field, concerning regulatory restrictions, consumer rights, state and local law limitations, and others.
Rafael was ranked by the Chambers 2022 in Dispute Resolution and in the regional category Rio de Janeiro. He has also been repeatedly recognized as a leading lawyer in Brazil by The Legal 500.
Before BFBM, Rafael was a partner at Luis Roberto Barroso & Advogados for two Years.
He holds an LL.B. from the Pontifical University of Rio de Janeiro – PUC/RJ (2003); a post-graduate degree in Consumer Law from the same university (2005); and an Executive MBA in Fundação Dom Cabral (2022).
He speaks Portuguese (native) and English (fluent).
